Plastic Prototyping

Urethane machined cast sample

Our engineering staff is here to help you not only design your part for best molding practices but also decide the most economical way to prototype. We offer four different solutions to suit your plastic prototyping needs.

Machining

If only a few samples are needed to test the fit, form and completed function testing in a material similar to the design material, machining may be the best way to go. Our Machining Department is capable of supplying a quick turnaround of those machined parts.

Soft Steel Tools

If molded samples are needed in the specific design material because the molded-in stress could affect the function tests, Diversified Plastics, Inc. can provide prototype or limited quantity molds in a hurry. Actual lead times will vary depending on the complexity of the part design, but we have been able to supply tools in just two to three weeks. With the one-stop-shopping concept, Diversified Plastics, Inc. is able to help with part design, build the tool, run sample parts and provide a fully dimensioned First Article Report. So if your requirements include plastics tooling prototyping, Diversified Plastics should be your choice.

SLAs or Urethane Molds

Diversified Plastics, Inc. has partnered with several rapid prototyping houses to supply SLA samples for form and fit testing and urethane molded parts for slightly larger quantities. If you desire one or two parts, quickly and relatively inexpensively, then SLAs are the best solution. Just seeing the part can be helpful and SLA's are normally available in just a matter of days. If you need somewhere between two and ten pieces, then a urethane mold may be your best choice.

FDMs (Fused Deposition Modeling)

Diversified Plastics, Inc. has also partnered with a rapid prototype house to supply FDM samples. This process heats plastic material and pushes it through a controlled nozzle. The advantage of FDM over SLAs samples is that the resins used in this process more closely match injection molding grades. Thus the parts will function similar to the molded production parts.

Whatever your prototype requirements, we have the experience and know how to fulfill your plastic prototyping needs. From one or two samples to aluminum or P20 soft steel molds to MUD units to P20 mold bases with hardened tool cavities from 10 to 1,000 pieces, Diversified Plastics would be pleased to assist you with your precision injection molding needs.
